A string band discovered in a remote part of Vanuatu will perform in an annual week-long music event in France.

The ambassador of France to Vanuatu, Michel Djokovic, says the Perua String Band was discovered on the west coast of Espiritu Santo by international scientists a few years ago.

The seven-member band will make its first appearance in Port Vila this Thursday before leaving for France where it will perform in various cities.

The ambassador says the band will have time to meet other musicians during its three-week stay in France and also promote Vanuatu through its music.

"Vanuatu is not so popularised in Europe and in France and it will give a very good and positive image of the country, of the sense of live, of festivity, and joy."

Michel Djokovic says the band's travel expenses are being supported through the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
