The American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono says if Tri Marine International decides to make American Samoa its base of operations, it will attract positive economic activity to the territory.

Speaking on his radio program, the governor spoke about the recent visit by top executives of Tri Marine led by President and CEO Renato Curto and their interest in viewing the progress of the government owned shipyard in Satala.

Tri Marine currently has 10 vessels and contract longliners and the company would like to ascertain if the shipyard is up to par to service the Tri Marine fleet.

Togiola says if Tri Marine decides to send its fleet to be serviced by the shipyard in American Samoa, it would lead to money pouring into the territory.

Shipyard services board chairman Carlos Sanchez says Mr Curto discussed with them the refurbishing of one of his purse seiners in August.

Mr Sanchez says the shipyard has committed a full workforce working two shifts with no interruptions to complete the work.
