Vanuatu wants European Investment Bank relocated to Port Vila from Australia

Vanuatu's Ambassador to the European Union has promised to negotiate for the European Investment Bank to be relocated from Australia to Vanuatu.

The EIB works to implement the financial pillar of EU external cooperation and development policies.

The meeting of the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries earlier this month discussed that the EIB Office should be relocated to a Pacific Island country.

The ambassador, Roy Mickey Joy, says he is speaking in support of the call by the foreign minister, Alfred Carlot, who asked the European Union why Australia hosts the EIB Regional Office when it is not a member of the ACP Group.

Mr Joy says Vanuatu has already placed its bid to host the Office.
