Fiji beat Samoa to advance to Netball final

11:59 am on 29 June 2012

Fiji has beaten Samoa 49-43 in the second match of the 4th Annual Pacific Netball Series to earn a place in the final against the Cook Islands.

With both teams having come off wins in the opening match, it was a must win, but Samoa couldn't keep up with hosts Fiji.

The National Manager of the Fiji side, Tanya Vatubua says it was an intensive match, players all played their part.

"The ladies have prepared very well. We've actually worked closely with our military in our training sessions and it was basically on the confidence of their trusting each other that kept them going. It was a very tight match but the players did very well to actually hold onto the confidence and just believing in each other to pull them through to the end of the game."

Tanya Vatubua says the Fiji team will undergo circuit training to work on their stamina and endurance ahead of the final.

In the other match last night, the Cook Islands took out Papua New Guinea 62-56 to secure the other place in the final.

The final will be held at 5pm Friday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
