US Coast Guard re-floats sunken vessel in American Samoa

The US Coast Guard has re-floated the sunken fishing boat the Alice S and the American Samoa Government is taking possession of the vessel with approval of the High Court.

The vessel which sank at the west end of the shipyard at Satala two weeks ago will be hauled up on the slipway and cut up for scrap.

The boat was last registered in 2007 and its owner at that time was a John Sullivan who is reported to be in Texas.

The High Court has approved for the government to take possession of the vessel.

The Alice S was the second boat to sink in Pago Pago harbor in the span of two weeks. The first one Liliafao is also to be turned over to the government for scrap.
