The interim Minister for Electoral Reform in Fiji, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, is urging all Fijians above the age of 18 to register under the electronic voter registration system to ensure they are eligible to vote in 2014.

The Fiji Sun reports that from Tuesday this week clerks will be in centres around the country to register voters.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum has called on all Fijians to be part of a process which would ensure the new government after the 2014 elections is voted in through a transparent and fair voting practice.

He says it is critical for any successful parliamentary election to be held that there be maximum participation in the voting process.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum says with the voting age lowered to 18 it is important that young people understand the importance of being registered.
