Fijian Apete Saunikalou RatumaiyaleTuisovurua has been named as one of the three British soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Sunday.

The Ministry of Defence says the other two were guardsmen Craig Roderick of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, and Warrant Officer Class Two Leonard Thomas, of the Royal Corps of Signals.

Guardsman Tuisovurua, who was born in Fiji, was deployed to Afghanistan April of this year as a member of a Police Advisory Team within the Police Mentoring Advisory Group.

He joined the Welsh Guards in 2011 at Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow.

The Ministry of Defence says the three soldiers were shot as they left a checkpoint in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan.

The alleged gunman was injured and later detained.

A second Afghan policeman is also believed to be in custody in connection with the shootings.
