Samoa's health parliamentary committee is distributing seedlings of different varieties of fruit trees as part of its nutritional food campaign in schools throughout the country.
Thousands of seedlings are being received by both government and missions schools this week.
The chair of the committee, Samoa's parliamentary speaker, La'auli Leuatea Polataivao, has called on parents and teachers to work together to change students diets by providing more nutritious food for lunch and breakfast.
He says the aim is to get schools to plant as many seedlings as they can because it is much better to have more fruits for students to eat.
He is also urging teachers and school committees to maintain healthy conditions in school toilets and classrooms.
The speaker has warned that schools will be closed if they fail to meet the health standards upon follow-up inspection this week.
