The United States President Barak Obama has nominated a new ambassador to Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
Walter North is a career Foreign Service member with extensive experience in Asia and Africa, and is currently the US Agency for International Development's Mission Director in Egypt.
Mr North previously served as USAID Mission Director in India, Zambia and most recently, between 2007 and 2011, in Indonesia.
Before joining USAID in 1980, Mr North was a project manager for the non-profit, humanitarian organisation, CARE in India and Bangladesh, and a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia.
