The Pago Pago Village Council in American Samoa has met in a bid to end violent fights between teenage groups.
Local chiefs spoke with about a dozen youths in an effort to protect the good name of the village.
The fighting has been described by residents as frightening, with rocks, bottles and other sharp objects thrown.
Rocks were also thrown at police and their vehicles and some police were assaulted while trying to make arrests.
The Attorney General, Blake Hanley, says they have identified two gangs in the area but the youths involved have denied they are gang members.
The Village Council has not issued any punishment but warned the youths they will take action if there is more trouble.
