Tahiti road blocks lifted after days of disruptions

The French Polynesia group campaigning for the latest fuel price hike to be rescinded has lifted its blockades around Papeete after threatening for days to bring the city to a halt.

The action by the group Te Tau no te Hono had caused big traffic jams but were tolerated by the police for the best part of a week.

The authorities have however summoned some of the people whose trucks were parked on thoroughfares to impede or block the free flow of traffic.

The group held several meetings with the government which rejected the group's demands.

The group is reportedly considering changing tactics in its campaign but is still calling for a rally tomorrow outside the territorial assembly.
