The latest brawl involving several Samoan college students of a mission and a government school has prompted calls for corporal punishment to be reinstated.
The Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says he is considering such a policy change following Monday's fight between Avele and St Joseph's colleges behind the Flea market.
The police say five students are in custody and have been charged.
The prime minister says this has happened far too many times and he is beginning to think that recently adopted western-style disciplinary methods, which frown on the strap, are not working.
Tuilaepa, who was a former Catholic school student, says when corporal punishment was administered in a controlled environment as done by the Police and the Marist Brothers in the past; it curbed this sort of violent and appalling behaviour among students.
He has urged school principals to expel any student found to be involved in these clashes.
