South Korean airline says Rota needs to fix airport

A South Korean airline has told Northern Marianas officials that Rota airport needs some work done before it can launch direct flights.

The airline Jeju Air is considering twice weekly flights from next summer.

The carrier's chief operating officer, Boo Young Eum, says Rota won't be able to accommodate its 189-seater aircraft because of pavement strength issues.

He also says Jeju Air would like to operate at night, but the Rota only operates between 6am and 8pm.

A Rota Senator Juan Ayuyu says preparing the airport for this sort of undertaking would entail co-operation among local and federal agencies.
