Former Cooks MP in fatal accident

2:08 pm on 17 August 2012

A former Cook Islands MP was one of two people to die in a vehicle accident at the Punanga Nui markets in Rarotonga yesterday.

Albert Nicholas Senior is believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving his pick-up truck behind the markets.

The truck swerved and hit John Taru of Arorangi, who was up a ladder carrying out repairs on a market hut.

Both men died at the scene.

Mr Nicholas was formerly the MP for Ruatonga-Atupa-Panama-Palmerston and a member of the Cook Islands Party for many years.
