Cook Islands Police are embroiled in yet another scandal involving officers stealing money.

Commissioner Maara Tetava has confirmed cash to a value of up to 16 thousand US dollars, along with other property, has gone missing from the national police headquarters.

He has brought in two New Zealand detectives to conduct a criminal investigation of police staff.

Last week a former officer was sentenced for stealing from a crime scene and last month another former officer was jailed for her part in a drug ring.
