Sport: PNG still lose despite Kent century

10:15 am on 20 August 2012

A glittering century to captain Chris Kent was not enough to prevent Papua New Guinea falling to another defeat at the Under 19 Cricket World Cup.

Kent top-scored with 105 not out from 117 balls as the Garamuts posted a solid 239 for 5 from their 50 overs.

Nigel Boge also provided support with an unbeaten 55.

In reply, Afghanistan lost wickets at regular intervals but ensured that they kept up with the required run-rate.

Mohibullah Paak and Afsar Khan combined for an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 85 to get Afghanistan home with an over to spare.

So the best PNG can now finish is 13th, with their next match against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
