Solomon Islands MPs acused of diverting tourism funds

Solomon Islands MPs have been accused of diverting public funds meant for tourism projects.

The criticism is from the president of the Malaita Ma'asina Forum, former MP Charles Dausabea who says the public prosecutor and police should investigate.

Mr Dausabea says each MP was given 194 thousand US dollars from the Tourism Development Fund for the development of tourism projects in their electorates.

He says while some projects seem credible, he's critical of others where he claims the money has gone directly to the MPs involved or their spouses, or to projects outside of the tourism sector.
