The chairman of Investment Fiji says there is good potential for the country to advance investment and trade with the United Arab Emirates or UAE.

Fiji's interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama will officially open its first embassy in the region, in Abu Dhabi, on Sunday.

The chairman of Investment Fiji Adrian Sofield says trade between the two are limited, with timber being exported from Fiji and rubber and plastics from the UAE.

He says there is good potential for Fiji to export more of its niche products to the high end UAE market.

"We have body products that are highly regarded internationally from Pure Fiji and Mokasoi. We have our palm wood furniture from Pacific Green. We have pearls from J Hunter Pearls. We also have Fiji Water. We have a representative from Pacific Green which is manufacturing the palm wood."

Adrian Sofield says there are also plans to entice investment from the UAE into Fiji's tourism industry.
