The Pacific Island Forum leaders have expressed concern at the ongoing illegal and unregulated fishing in the Pacific Ocean.
The leaders have held their retreat, as part of the Forum summit being held in the Cook Islands.

"The leaders called for moves to enhance the effectiveness of monitoring control and surveillance in their exclusive economic zones. They've asked for a science-based action plan to address overfishing, including measures by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission. On Fiji, leaders held their position on its suspension from last year, but noted what they call positive developments in that country. The Cook Islands Prime Minister, Henry Puna, says the islands have followed the lead of Australia and New Zealand in re-engaging with Fiji on some level. They have committed to supporting women's political representation, and pledged to act to end violence against women. A review of the Pacific Plan will be conducted, led by Sir Mekere Morauta of Papua New Guinea, with a draft report to be presented next year."
