Tonga Police Commissioner backs PSA over pay rise allocation

7:32 pm on 12 September 2012

Tonga's Police Commissioner says he backs a push by the Public Service Association for the Government to re-think the way this year's pay rise is to be allocated.

Under the Government's current plans only the top five pay levels are to receive a pay rise this year with lower ranks to get a rise in 2013.

The PSA says this is unfair and Commissioner Grant O'Fee agrees.

He says he would like the money available in 2012 to be spread across all ranks with the balance allocated next year.

But Mr O'Fee says the decision rests with the Police Minister.
