A 12-year-old in the Cook Islands has admitted committing 23 burglaries of homes and tourist accommodation around Rarotonga.

The boy was caught by police as part of a special operation last week which targetted people allegedly involved in crime spree on the island.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his young age, was already known to police as an offender.

He will appear in the Juvenile Court this week.

It has been revealed that his offending began two years ago, when, at the age of 10, he admits he broke into two houses.
