Samoa MP claims Prime Minister defamed him

1:49 pm on 20 September 2012

A Samoa opposition MP is taking legal action alleging he was defamed by the Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi.

Levaopolo Talatonu's move comes after local radio broadcast comments from the Prime Minister in which, he says, his matai title was pronounced in a disrespectful manner.

The MP has also asked the Parliamentary Speaker, Laauli Leuatea Polataivao, to investigate Tuilaepa over the comments and have him stand before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee.

Levaopolo says the comments by the Prime Minister have caused concern and embarrassment to his family, village, and constituency.
