Solomon Islands gifts USP 75 year land lease for fourth campus

The Solomon Islands Minister for Lands announced in Parliament yesterday a site has been earmarked for the University of the South Pacific's fourth campus.

Joseph Onika says a lease has been given to the USP by the Guadalcanal Provincial government.

"I'm happy to inform this parliament, the premier had written to the government to transfer the tittle to the commissioner of lands on behalf of the government and will lease to the University of the South Pacific for 75 years."

The Solomon Islands Minister for Lands, Joseph Onika also thanked the premier of Guadalcanal province, his executive and the people of Guadalcanal.

Meanwhile, the USP's Vice Chancellor Professor Rajesh Chandra left Honiara on Wednesday after leading a USP delegation to see the site.

The site is on west Guadalcanal - a old cocoa and coconut plantation site called Doma.
