After several months of delay, Arctic Circle Air will start operations soon following the arrival of its aircraft that will transport agricultural produce and other goods within the Northern Marianas and to Guam.
The company's president Anthony Pellegrino reiterated that the purpose of the Arctic Circle Air is to serve as a bridge between Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam by having farmers market and ship their products to and from the islands.
Mr Pellegrino says the Britten-Norman aircraft, which can carry 2,500 lbs of cargo, arrived Wednesday night after four days of flight travel.
From its originating point at Adak, Alaska's southernmost town, the 400,000 US dollar aircraft had layovers in Midway, Majuro, and Pohnpei before heading to Saipan.
Freight charges, he says, are so expensive that local farmers cannot venture into selling their goods to nearby islands.
