Cook Islands Prime Minister to co-chair meeting with Ban Ki-moon

3:38 pm on 24 September 2012

The Cook Islands Prime Minister, Henry Puna, will this week co-chair a meeting at the United Nations alongside the UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon.

Mr Puna was invited by the UN in his capacity as the new chair of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Ban Ki-moon is to meet with the Forum leaders on the margins of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

Mr Puna says the meeting is to make the secretary general aware of the outcomes last month's Forum summit.

Last year, at the Forum's Auckland summit, it was agreed the secretary-general would meet with Pacific leaders for regular interviews, beginning from this month.
