Fiji unionist expects political violence case hearing date in November

7:42 pm on 25 September 2012

The Fiji unionist charged with urging political violence almost a year ago says he expects to learn the date of his first hearing in November.

Daniel Urai, the president of the Fiji Trades Union Congress, pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been on bail since last November.

Since then his case has been adjourned several times.

"It's still sitting in court. By November I think a date will be given for the hearing, So for a whole year it's just been sitting in court."

While on bail Daniel Urai has had to apply to the court for permission to travel to overseas labour meetings.

However despite a court order allowing him to go to Beijing this week police stopped him from getting on the flight he had booked.
