The Fiji Government says it does not condone the excessive force used in the apprehension of four inmates who had escaped from Naboro Prison.
Five men escaped from the prison on Monday last week, and four of them were hospitalised after they were recaptured on Friday.
The police caught the fifth escaped prisoner, Isoa Waqa yesterday morning.
The Permanent Secretary for Information, Sharon Smith-Johns, says the Government is investigating how the four men were injured.
The Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, wouldn't comment about that arrest, but says several officers were injured during it.
"Two or three officers were injured during the event of recapturing of the escapees. We did not highlight it. It is part and parcel of our routine work. Our priority is to recapture the escapees and have them presented in court, along with those who assist them or aid them."
Rusiate Tudravu says the injured officers were treated in hospital and sent home.
He says seven people are now facing charges over allegations they helped the escaped prisoners, while two of the escapees who were hospitalised are now being questioned at police headquarters.
