American Samoa's House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing today on the Governor's bill pushing for a repeal of the death penalty.
The chairman, Toeaina Faufano Autele, is calling several officials to testify.
They include the Attorney General, Public Defender, and President of the American Samoa Bar Association.
Under the proposed amendment, the penalty for murder in the first degree would be life imprisonment with no parole until a minimum 40 years has been served.
