American Samoa senate rejects Governor's Development Bank nomination

9:09 pm on 2 October 2012

The Senate has rejected the governor's nomination of Leilua Stevenson as President of the Development Bank of American Samoa.

Ten votes were needed for confirmation but only seven senators endorsed her while eight objected.

There was no indication during the 30-minute confirmation hearing that she would be rejected.

Senators had praised the many improvements she's made at the Department of Human Resources which she has headed for the past four years and her strong financial and leadership skills.

The nominee's father is Senator Alo Stevenson.
