A Samoan police officer is serving a two-month jail sentence for assaulting a female officer last November.

Justice Vaepule Vaemoa Vaai told Kennaway Maisa, who trained new recruits, that his actions did not set a good example for new officers.

The victim received a seven centimetre wound to her face when she was assualted at a party in Taumeasina.

The officer pleaded guilty to the charge, and has also apologised to the victim's family.

The judge said police officers should not only enforce the law but they should also abide by it like everyone else.
