Fiji Sevens coach Alifereti Dere has named eight newcomers in his squad for the season opening Gold Coast Sevens next weekend.
Just four players from last year's team return, with many of the squad having picked up professional contracts overseas.
Dere says that gives his young players a chance to impress.
"Because next year is the world cup squad so this is one of the immediate challenges so we select the eight new guys to give us an opportunity to look at them and how they perform in the IRB Sevens Series."
Fiji are in the same pool as Tonga, Scotland and Australia on the Gold Coast.
