Niue will get four million US dollars from the Pacific Environment Community Fund for a national solar power project.
The PEC fund is a commitment by the Government of Japan to fund Forum Island Countries' efforts to address environmental issues.
The Government of Niue's initiative towards sustainable solar energy anticipates annual savings of about 110,000 US dollars and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will be administered with assistance from the Niue Power Corporation and the country's private sector.
