12:20 pm on 9 October 2012

A court in Samoa has given a former official of the Ministry of Women and Social Development until midday today to pay a court imposed fine or face jail time.

The court says if Roger Stanley does not pay the 500 US dollar fine by noon, after pleading guilty to one court of theft as a servant, he will be jailed for six months.

The 36 year-old who is also the president of the Faafafine Association, admitted to stealing nine hundred US dollars of the Ministry's funds, money he has already paid back.

The presiding judge has warned Mr Stanley that the next time he appears again on similar charges it will be a different penalty.
