Samoa's opposition party leader, Palusalue Faapo II, is calling on the government to follow the principles of good governance in its decision to purchase the Pacific Forum Line shipping company.
Palusalue says the Tautua opposition is concerned the government has not revealed the purchase cost of its winning bid , nor told the country why it purchased a company that has operated at a loss for ten years.
The government says it accepts the company has struggled but that it plans to work with current shipping partners and all stakeholders to improve the service.
The government says it is unable to reveal the purchase price until all legal and administrative procedures of the takeover are completed.
Palusalue, who is a former shipping minister, says that several original share holders of the company such as Papua New Guinea and New Zealand with more exports are not interested in buying the PFL because other shipping companies are more viable.
