Samoa and American Samoa have agreed to establish an economic integration initiative which would include members from the two governments and private sectors from both countries.

The plan which was agreed to at the inter-Samoa talks in Pago Pago on Tuesday, will focus on greater economic integration between the two Samoas.

The initiative will work towards a trade agreement that would be mutually beneficial to Samoa and American Samoa.

The key functions include identifying requirements to establish a trade agreement and will include improvements to the immigration, customs, tax, business creation, and foreign investment rules of the two countries.

The initiative will also draft proposals for export development and identify business opportunities between the country's private sectors, including trade exhibitions.
