Sport: Fiji captain backs young team to perform

6:39 am on 13 October 2012

Fiji captain Levani Botia says despite the large number of changes to the team in the off-season, they are capable of defending their Gold Coast Sevens title.

There are eight new caps in the Fiji team, with only one player, Osea Kolinisau, having been a part of last year's Cup winning side.

Fiji open their tournament against Scotland before taking on Pacific rivals Tonga and host nation Australia, and Levani Botia says he's confident the team can compete with the best.

"Last season we know we beat New Zealand so we hope that we want to take the IRB Series, because we didn't have it last season. We know that the coming series we know that we want to give our best for the upcoming sevens."
