Reports Vanuatu caretaker PM still to clear debt that could keep him out of poll

Our correspondent in Vanuatu says the caretaker Prime Minister, Sato Kilman, is yet to clear his bill of about 140,000 US dollars for outstanding rent.

Mr Kilman was one of 71 prospective candidates left off the list of those to contest the election - many because of outstanding public debts.

On Friday, it was claimed that the debt had been paid but over the weekend a spokesperson for Mr Kilman asserted there was no such debt.

Hilaire Bule, who was publicly attacked by the Prime Minister for revealing why he was left off the candidates' list, says Treasury is holding four unpaid invoices detailing debts Mr Kilman needs to clear if he is to run in this month's poll.
