11:24 am on 16 October 2012

An initiative to provide overnight accommodation for female market vendors at Rakiraki Market in Fiji is almost finished.

The Special Administrator of Rakiraki Town Council Seini Raiko told Fiji Broadcasting Corporation an engineering inspection has been completed and the tender on upgrading the market closed last Friday.

Mr Raiko says engineers are currently analysing the tenders and the contractors will be announced soon.

He says the upgrade is an extension of the existing market and will accommodate those who are selling in the current open market.

The 250,000 US dollar upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
