More than 11 thousand US dollars in unpaid water bills has been waived by Fiji's interim-Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

Fiji Village reports this comes after the government approved the waiving of over 7 million US dollars in water bill arrears.

Ballantine Memorial School which falls under the Methodist Church of Fiji had over 13 thousand US dollars arrears waived off.

Methodist Church of Fiji general secretary, Reverend Tevita Nawadra, says the bills accumulated over the years due to pipe leakage's and is grateful for the waiver.

A family of seven in Nawanawa Road, Nadera, had just over 560 US dollars owing.

Karma Wati says they were paying their bills, but it kept accumulating.

She says the waiver has lifted a lot of burden as their only bread winner is her disabled son who does odd jobs to look after the family.

100,000 Fijians are expected to benefit from the bill waiver.
