Papua New Guinea has dropped tariffs against two out of three items imported from Fiji.

The prime minister Peter O'Neill made the announcement to his Fijian counterpart Commodore Frank Bainimarama on his first trip as prime minister to PNG at the weekend.

According to the National newspaper, Mr O'Neill promised increased labour mobility and relaxed immigration rules to facilitate greater movement of people within Melanesian Spearhead Group countries covering PNG, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji and FLNKS.

The change in rules now means Fijians can apply for jobs in PNG and vice versa.
