American Samoa's Swains touted as option for Tokelau air strip

The Swains island delegate to the American Samoa House of Representatives, Alexander Jennings, says he supports building a landing strip on the island for use by Tokelau.

Mr Jennings, who has been selected for a third term, says there's not enough land on neighbouring Tokelau to build a landing strip.

He says if New Zealand wants to build a strip on Swains Island, he will support it.

Speaking to Swains islanders, Mr Jennings said the New Zealand government has been studying an air strip for Tokelau and all the studies point to Swains as a viable option.
