American Samoa's Attorney General Fepuleai Arthur Ripley says he hopes 14-day entry permits for visitors from Samoa can be issued at ports of entry by the end of the year.

The change was agreed upon during inter-Samoa talks earlier this month, allowing for 14-day permits to be issued on arrival at the airport or dock.

Fepuleai says for now travellers still have to apply for permits before departing Apia.

He has told KHJ News that before the new arrangements can be implemented an upgrade of the Immigration Office's computer system is needed.
