NZ's McCully in talks with PNG government

2:31 pm on 29 October 2012

New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully is in Papua New Guinea meeting the Government to discuss Asia-Pacific regional issues, trade and investment links, aid, and political and economic developments in PNG and Bougainville.

Mr McCully will also travel to the Highlands region for a first-hand look at economic development, agriculture and energy opportunities.

Earlier this month, the PNG Trade Minister, Richard Maru, spoke of the desire to correct the trade imbalance between the two countries, to encourage sheep farming and dairy investment, and to access expertise in geothermal power generation.

A small business delegation is accompanying Mr McCully.

A planned trip to the Highlands last year was called off amid PNG's political crisis.
