PNG police warn landowners about threats

8:42 am on 31 October 2012

The Assistant Police Commissioner of Papua New Guinea's National Capital District has appealed to landowners to apply commonsense and not issue threats over their demands.

Francis Tokura says police will not allow landowners to carry out their threats to stop water supply to the NCD or even block off the Jackson's International airport both.

He says landowners cannot continue to blackmail and threaten the people and government of PNG, however genuine their concerns are.

In statement, he says far too long landowners have engaged a tendency where they threaten and disrupt services over their claims.

Mr Tokura says whilst they may have genuine claims there are other avenues available which they can pursue such as mediation and as a last resort the courts.
