Australian HC leads Movember campaign in Solomons

Honiara will be a lot hairier this month with the men of the Australian High Commission growing moustaches in a campaign to raise awareness of men's health issues in Solomon Islands.

Movember is a month-long global charity initiative that hopes to raise awareness, support and funding for serious men's health issues, particularly prostate cancer and mental health.

The Deputy High Commissioner Dave Peebles is leading this year's efforts and he says the event gets people talking about facial hair, while at the same time raising publicity about men's health in the Solomons.

He says the High Commission has the month all planned out.

"People have committed to a wide range of moustache styles, there's the great big handlebar moustache all the way down the face, there's short thin ones, the Magnum PI moustache is I think the most popular choice so far."
