Niue ring road sealed at last

3:02 pm on 6 November 2012

A significant stretch of the ring road around Niue has been sealed for the first time through funding from New Zealand's aid programme.

The New Zealand High Commissioner, Mark Blumsky, says the Niue government had been wanting to upgrade the road for some years but lacked the resources.

He says the dirt road had become rutted and was difficult to travel on in wet conditions.

Mr Blumsky says the sealed road will have economic benefits, improving access to some significant tourism features.
