Sport: Samoa expect Canada to front up in tour opener

11:14 am on 9 November 2012

Manu Samoa coach Stephen Betham says tomorrow morning's tour opener against Canada, in the North of Wales, is a big opportunity to boost their world ranking.

With the Rugby World Cup seeding draws to be made after the November internationals, there's no shortage of incentive for teams to do well.

Samoa is ranked 10th in the world, three places above the Maple Leafs, but Stephen Betham says they're expecting a tough encounter.

"We're not taking any teams lightly and we're not just here to make up numbers. We're here to give it out best and hopefully improve our ranking. Ball retention has got to be one of the biggest things we look at on the weekend. That was the main focus in camp was ball retention - especially in the contact area."
