Solomon Islands police say they have now arrested 30 suspects in relation to last week's violence in Gizo.

The Commisoner of Police, John Lansley, visited the town last week and he has told the Solomon Star newspaper that investigations have progressed well thanks to the help of residents in Gizo.

All suspects are related to two groups who fought over a stabbing incident.

Mr Lansley says the rival groups have reconciled their differences after meeting church leaders and senior residents.

He says the tense situation in the town has eased.
