The Governor of Papua New Guinea's Manus Province is negotiating with landowners to end their blockade of the local airport.
The landowners shut down the airport last night over their demands for immediate work contracts and benefits from the reopening of Australia's asylum seeker processing centre on Manus.
At least one flight from Port Moresby, understood to be carrying more officials working towards the reopening of the processing centre, has already been blocked.
The office of Governor, Charlie Benjamin, has confirmed that he and the Manus Provincial Administrator, Kule-en Hamou, have today made an attempt to encourage the landowners to clear the airport runway.
