A French Polynesian group which is raising awareness of the dangers of drug abuse says school students should be drug tested.
The call by the Association to live without drugs, follows the beckoning of the ruling Tavini Huiraatira party for public debate on cannabis use.
An ex-drug addict and member of the non-government organisation, Vahiani Cowan says cannabis destroyed his life and caused him to lose custody of his sons.
He believes drug testing should be conducted in schools
"It would bring consciousness to people. It's a way of putting pressure on the part of the teachers towards the students. Whereas the students that consume will either not come to school at all or they will come to school and they would try and make an effort not to consume before coming to class because the goal of it is to make children learn."
Vahiani Cowan says more awareness campaigns are needed to educate people on the dangers of drug abuse.
